London - Shenfield
Development of an improved May 2016 London - Shenfield timetable considering its impact on both reliability and passenger loads on the trains
Once MTR began operating the London-Shenfield section, trenolab was asked to adjust the timetable to increase line performance and reduce overcrowding of critical trains. In this analysis we combined analysis of ticketing (Oyster) data and train movements to identify the critical trains and then developed a revised timetable to improve operations using stochastic simulation. The timetable changes were implemented in May 2016 with astonishing results: punctuality within a 5-minute window increased by over 5% in the first 5 weeks of operations.
