Timetable planning and simulation to support the step-wise miagration to CBTC

The Oslo Metro (T-bane) network serves Norway’s capital with six lines spanning more than 85 kilometers, connecting central Oslo to suburban areas and carrying approximately 120 million passengers annually. trenolab provided critical support to Oslo Metro’s strategic migration to Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology through comprehensive timetable planning and simulation services. Our team developed detailed migration scenarios to ensure seamless transitions between phases while maintaining operational continuity, ensuring passengers experience improved frequency and reliability throughout the modernization process. The project focused on step-wise implementation strategies, analyzing how different network sections could be upgraded to CBTC while interfacing with existing signalling systems. Our simulations evaluated capacity impacts, service reliability, and operational flexibility during each migration phase. Through advanced modeling techniques, we assessed optimal timetable configurations for mixed-mode operations, where CBTC and conventional signalling systems operate simultaneously.
