Tram-Train Massy-Evry in Paris

Simulating operations on a mixed heavy rail and tram line

The 20-km long line Évry-Massy will serve all in all 16 stations and stations among which 11 new stations, connecting through the existing main line of Longjumeau, Chilly-Mazarin and Épinay-sur-Orge. Then, in an urban tramway network, it will serve the municipalities of Épinay-sur-Orge, Morsang-sur-Orge, Viry-Châtillon, Grigny, Ris-Orangis, Courcouronnes and finally Évry. It will have interchanges with existing Réseau Express Régional (RER) lines B, C and D.

The main challenge for operating this line is that it is formed by two different systems: a traditional railway between Massy and Epinay with interactions with other services (freight trains and few TGVs) and regular tram line between Épinay-sur-Orge and Évry-Courcouronnes operating aside existing roads.

trenolab, together with its partner Alius Consulting, has been asked by SNCF Mobilité to simulate operations considering the impact of road traffic. trenolab developed a set of specific functions to reproduce the drive on-sight and traffic lights in trenissimo. The study demonstrated the feasibility and robustness of the proposed plan which entered into service at the end of 2019.
