Operational simulation of the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail line

Evaluation of a mixed unserground at street-level line

Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit (ECLRT) is a 19km light rail transit (LRT) line being constructed from Kennedy Station to Mount Dennis (Weston Road) in Toronto, Canada. Approximately 10km of the line will be located underground and operated as a metro line using CBTC, while the others will be at street level as a conventional tram line.

Planning operations on the line requires tools that are able to model both systems, including the impact of at-level crossings with roads. trenolab supported SNC Lavalin implementing in trenissimo a set of specific functions that allow, among others, to simulate the combination of rail signalling and road traffic lights. The tool allows estimating accurately the running and stop times during the day, a key input to prepare a reliable service plan and an estimation of the required number of trainsets and drivers.
