The mega-webinar day: trenolab speaks at 2 webinars for 3 continents!

  • Sep 30, 2021 at 10:00 AM (CET)

What an incredible opportunity to be invited to present our latest developments in Artificial Intelligence for railway timetabling in two webinars on the same day!

International Rail Timetabling: seamless connectivity to attract passengers and freight customers

For the European and Asian public, at 10.00 a.m. CET, Giorgio Medeossi joined the IRITS webinar titled “International Rail Timetabling: seamless connectivity to attract passengers and freight customers” presenting how our latest developments in AI are able to generate high quality timetable drafts optimising multiple KPIs. The conversation was joined by senior experts: Mats Berlin, head of Capacity Management at Trafikverket, Kurt Bauer, Head of Long-Distance Passenger Services at ÖBB, Stefan Jugelt, ERA project officer and was moderated by Carsten Lotz. Mats Berlin presented the infrastructure manager’s view on the planning process, while Kurt Bauer approached timetabling from the operator’s perspective, with Stefan Jugelt remarking the data format standardisation effort undergoing at ERA. trenolab’s AI approach to timetable generation received many good questions for the novelty of our approach especially for its capability to minimise travel time, number of conflicts, energy consumption and to maximise the number of scheduled trains and the timetable stability. Seamless integration of microsimulations and ant colonies: a new tool for automatic timetable generation

For the American public, at 4.00 p.m. CET, Giorgio Medeossi and Nicola Coviello presented a detailed view of the algorithms behind trenolab’s AI for timetable generation. The webinar was organised by the Railway Application Section of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences. In their presentation they were joined by Thomas Nygreen, Senior Planner at the Norwegian Railway Directorate, who introduced the strategic planning needs and vision of the Norwegian Railway Directorate. He remarked that trenolab’s AI represents an important innovation for timetabling experts: the AI is capable of generating many high-quality timetable drafts allowing planners to use their experience for trade-offs analysis and finalisation of the selected timetable. Scenarios requiring months of planner’s work can be now analysed in days representing a true innovation in the field. Link to the Event
