RER B, D, AND E PARIS
ANALYSIS OF THE CURRENT SITUATION, VERIFICATION AND PROPOSAL OF MAJOR PROJECTS FOR THE FUTURE URBAN SERVICES.
The RER transports millions of passengers every day in Paris and the Ile-de-France Region. One of the current major issues for the SNCF is to ensure a good quality of service while implementing important new projects in an optimal way.
CDG Express will be the new fast connection between the airport Charles de Gaulle and the Paris city center. With an efficient stochastic simulation of several perturbation and delay scenarios it was possible to verify the interactions between this new services, the RER B and the other regional trains.
Many different projets (new infrastructures, reorganisation of the commercial network, introductin of additional trains in the morning peak hour) were verified for the RER D. A large simulation model, integrating also the entire Gare de Lyon and Gare du Nord, gave the possibility to quantify and verify the most relevant and interesting proposals and define the priorities for the short, middle and long term.
In a few years the RER E will be extended form St Lazare to la Defense becoming a new rail service across Paris. With an accurate probabilistic simulation (that included also the entire Gare de l’Est) it was possible to optimise the integration of the new infrastructure and signalling system CBTC in the existing network in the north and the east of Paris.
